Matthew L.J. Clarke is a surety veteran celebrating 25 years in the profession in 2020. As a result, gets what he wants for his clients because he "speaks the language" of the top surety underwriters. Starting his career in surety in the AIG home office in New York; the most competitive and complex construction market in the nation, Clarke has experienced a wide variety of underwriting climates, and today skillfully navigates the current surety market for the benefit of his clients. Other career highlights include underwriting at both the branch level for Amwest Surety in New York and Home Office underwriter in Los Angeles. He was a founding member of Contractor Surety Group in Charleston in 2014 and brought his deep experience to the table originating LIHTC Bonds Ltd Co and Carolina Indemnity Group in 2019 to focus on surety needs of multi-family developers.

Clarke wrote his first LIHTC bond for the National Housing Partnership in 1995 and has been an integral part of the industry ever since, serving as author, speaker, presenter, underwriter, and agent.

He is respected by the surety underwriting community and is active in several industry organizations and sits on numerous boards.
